Ana Eugenia is part of the fourth generation of coffee growers at El Pinar, which is small piece of the original Plantation "El Pinar" planted by her grandfather, Juan Ramon Calderon, in the 70's. Ana and her two sisters became involved with the farm in 2002 to help her parents during to world coffee price crash, so that the family could continue to manage this beautiful land in the Alotepec-Metapan Mountain Range. They employ 15 workers from March through September, and 50 workers during the harvest-time from December to February. Their family makes it a tradition and priority to donate and assist in the development of the community, including funding for the local school facilities, football field, and Catholic Church. In the year 2000, the family cooperated with the municipal government to connect the community to the electrical grid for the first time.

This special lot for submission to the COE competition was selected by a small group of skilled pickers, and was milled the eco-mill "Beneficio Alotepec" with clean stream water, and sun dried. Ana was very proud to compete for the second time in a Cup of Excellence program, when this lot earned an International Jury score of 88.06. We bought it at the International Auction.
